Been working on throwing this together for days, but here are the best pics. As you can tell, I played Brad Majors in Pitt’s Rocky Horror Picture Show Oct 29th 2013. My first shadow cast and my sister’s and cousin’s first Rocky! We had a 600 person audience and they all blew me away. We reeeeally want to do another one soon, because the cast is beyond incredible and I love them all.
Well, point is, here are a bunch of floor show pics, one from the lab scene, one of the water orgy, and one of the dinner bit. I know, we’re all sexy as anything :D
The last pic is from when my friends and I went to see ENDER’S GAME. If you want to talk about it, shoot me an ask. I have so much to say… The one before that is from Halloween, I pretty much just put on the Rocky stuff plus A NEW PAIR OF HEELS!! Walked around with Morgan, our fantastic Columbia. Got the best responses on the street: “You look like a hooker…” “You look sluttier than I do!” “Doctor.” Best Halloween in a long as butt time.
fluffy-mcfluffles asked: Why do you cross dress, and do you ever wear clothes that were specifically made for men?
I certainly wear “guy clothes” a lot more than dresses and skirts, because crossdressing is a special thing for me, and sometimes it’s just easier to dress dude. I keep my toes painted, but only end up in clothes “made for women” about once or twice a week.
I crossdress for a number of reasons, most of which I’ve mentioned before. I have some go to answers that I usually dish out when people ask me on the street:
- It’s fun and I think it makes me look pretty/shows off my body and hairiness.
- Deconstruction of gender norms and expectations
- Not subscribing to gender binaries/being a genderf*ck, which means I wear clothes typically worn by the other sex, but do not care about passing as the other sex.
- As thMNSTR says “I use the male body as a canvas to explore the idea of femininity”
- Men, being manly, in dresses and skirt is still a progressive fashion statement, (which there don’t seem to be too many of anymore,) just as women in pants was a hundred years ago. Women fought for the right to wear pants, I’m fighting for the right not to have to.
- I HATE PANTS, seriously, they are constricting tubes of fabric which don’t allow my lower body to breathe.
- Skirts/dresses allow my lower body to breathe.
- Hairy guy+dress x today’s world = still sort of absurd, makes people look twice. No one should have a normal day.
- I never get compliments on my outfit when I’m in jeans and a plaid button down…
- The fact that people don’t give me crap for it in the real world or online hopefully inspires people who want to do the same, but a scared to give it a go.
- It keeps me entertained. You can fall into a rut and doing something like this breaks up the monotony.
- Recently, crossdressing has been attractive some new friends, and that’s been glorious.
- But, when it comes right down to it, since a kid I experimented and now that I’m in college, it’s the perfect time. I’ve only had good experiences and it’s a world of fun.
When I make a list like this it actually becomes harder to think of reasons for anyone not to crossdress sometimes (as long as their environment is basically welcoming to it or not explicitly against it). It’s a changing world and erasing gender binaries and exploring new fashion is an exciting frontier.
Thanks for your question, hope I was able to answer well…
Welcome New Followers!!! Here is a new Goodwill sweater dress (Wet Seal actually) I bought Saturday. [Picture cred: Haley] Really lucky find. For the new guests to my blog, I’m a Pittsburgh college Junior with a beard and a thing for dresses and skirts. About once a week I wear an “unbifurcated outfit” to class, and bring a good deal of absurdity to everyone’s day, and some joy to my own.
Part of it is just that they’re fun, pretty, and show off my legs, part of it is the deconstruction of gender norms and expectations, part of it is a fashion statement (women fought for the right to wear pants, I’m fighting for the right not to have to), part of it is that it’s still absurd and confusing for a lot of people to see a hairy guy in a dress and everyone should have something absurd happen to them every day, and part of it is that I Just. Hate. Pants. If you have any questions, toss them in my ask, and I promise I’ll get back to you!
The third picture is a shot of me (in “boy clothes”) with the phenomenal absurdist playwright, Christopher Durang, author of many plays including “The Actor’s Nightmare,” which I starred in last year as George Spelvin. I got to see him talk and ask him the question “In your experience, what is the heart and soul of absurdism?” His answer was about the kind of laughter at an Al-Anon meeting. PERFECT. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Anon/Alateen) Al-Anon is the support group for family and friends of Alcoholics, and is incredibly important.
TL;DR- Welcome New Friends! Ask me anything! New Dress! DURANG!!!!!!
First off, I really like heels, and wish I had a nice pair or two.
Secondly, there are a few issues. I have wide, size 11-12 man feet which would require a size 13 in women’s which is rare and expensive. I don’t quite trust buying shoes online, I have this complete disbelief that they’ll ever fit. Next reason you don’t see me in heels is because I mostly crossdress to class, where I find it’s tacky (and loud) to wear heels.
Other times I go out, or show up on a stage, I tend to wear this pair of women’s size 11 kitten heels I found at goodwill once, or a women’s size 11 pair of cork wedges I found at Gabriel Brothers (both pictured). There’s a special delight in the lift and confidant walk one is forced into with a heel, shame I don’t have a solid pair with a few more inches under them.
P.S. Check out that CD in the front AM - Future Sons and Daughters. Forever in my top 10.
First couple pictures are from the Hall of Gem and Minerals in the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh (I <3 cyanotrichite). My one of my very best and most delightful friends, Carly (featured previously), told me she wanted to try crossdressing as a guy with me dressing girly one day, so we went off to Goodwill (pics 5 for a dress in the genderqueer colours! and pic 3 for a jean jacket I bought there) to get her a solid dude outfit. While she’s still getting the hang of it, one of the docents at the museum ACTUALLY MISTOOK HER FOR A GUY!!! We were really giddy about that… If you have any good tips/messages of encouragement for her, send them along!
Picture six is from today and features some new, crazy amazing friends. (Left to right: Michal, Me, Hannah http://bayconbit.tumblr.com/ FOLLOW HER for cute animals, sweet puns, and quality humour, Sam, and my bike, Volare [photo credit: some Asian chick leaving Posvar]) I was biking and a hip gal cat-called me, I swung Volare around to thank her properly, and, noticing that I was a little chilly, she offered me this phenomenal plaid jacket (ironically from a men’s section). Instant friends. The lot of them are beyond rad.
Here’s to hoping the fall stays warm and the people stay wonderful! What’s new with you, Constant Followers?
yayforpizza asked: i admire your guts to do shit like go to class in a dress u_u i have wanted to do that for a long time and have not yet got the guts/outfit to do it with... but yeah, kudos!
Thanks! It’s really a lot of fun, and at least at my college, here in 2013, people are really progressive and accepting. I get more compliments than crap and that’s amazing to me every time. If you ever want to run any outfits by me, please do!
If you have a friend in a class who you trust, have them take you shopping. Go out and about with them dressed up, like to a park or art crawl or something. Plan the day you’ll go to class and make sure they save you a seat. You might even want to change at their place and go to class together. Do it enough times and you’ll get more comfortable with it.
Seriously, I’m so glad I have supportive friends and all you wonderful people on tumblr to boost my confidence, because walking around the uni in a dress has been some of my favourite times at college. And remember, you don’t need to try to pass as a lady to have fun in a skirt!
New mullet skirt outfit! It felt like a Rue 21 day after this crummy math test, and while I left the dress at the counter, I bought a pair of black fake Toms, two tanks and that fantastic lace “hi-low” skirt. I’ll post pictures when I wear it to class. The hope is that there are some nice warm days before Autumn turns to prewinter on me, so I can swing it.
Welcome new followers! I hope everyone is having wonderful weeks :)
Also! I’ve gotten into Pitt’s Rocky Horror shadow cast as Brad Majors!! Incredibly geeked, will post pictures when they exist. I’ve been like about five Rockys but never had the honour of acting in one; this is big!
Anyone have any good Rue21 or Rocky Horror stories?
Posing with my Cousin Maddie (http://www.in-uthenera.tumblr.com) after class on a Thursday. I bought this dress from Goodwill last year and you can find the posts deep in the blog, but I finally matched it to some tights and flats and wore it to class.
Glad I’m making this a more regular occurrence, and I urge anyone who’s thinking about wearing a dress or skirt to class to give it a go. People’s give you the looks, and they might be really confused, but remember that you look way better than any of them and strut it!
Rewatching Babylon 5 with the roommates, and we got to my favourite Delenn line in the whole show. This is SPOILERS if you’ve never seen it, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WATCH BABYLON 5, and great feels if you have.
Anonymous asked: when did you start cross dressing in public? i would but i dont have the nerve.
You can kind of track it through the blog, but it’s all been within the last calendar year. Went to a couple Rocky shows in a corset, improv show in like April, an art show back in May, and an art fest in July. But it’s only become more common within the last month, and crossdressing to class only the past two weeks.
I had to get the nerve up too, but it was so worth it every time. And I didn’t get any crap from anyone :) Plan out your outfit and go with a friend!
Incredibly beautiful September day, couldn’t not wear a skirt to class. Trying to make it a more regular thing, anyway. Went to the park for lunch with my friend Carly (photo credit: Jess) after class. On my way home I noticed fire safety training in front of the union and got to extinguish the flames (of intolerance), in a skirt! (Photo credit: Kara)
Biking in a skirt on a hot, slightly breezy day like this is a delight. If you haven’t biked in a skirt/dress, it’s about time.
It’s funny to me that while I don’t get any real crap for this, people often ask me if I’ve lost a bet. Has anyone actually ever made and lost a bet where they ended up crossdressing, lol?
